A deep dive into the 2024 Education Report

Children stand in front of a large whale in the 2024+ Education Report.

What’s the whale doing on the cover?

No question has been asked of me more frequently in recent weeks, and with that, I would like to warmly welcome you to a brief exploration of the present and future of education, as presented in Deutsche Telekom’s Education Report 2024+.

This report is based on the idea of providing an anchor point in the spirit of Friedrich Nietzsche’s vision of education as ‘living in the spirit of great minds for great purposes’. And it is intended to serve as a navigational aid in the as yet uncharted waters of educational innovation. So why the whale on the front cover? Quite simply: who better to guide us through the depths of education than a creature to which wisdom, depth, communication skills and social intelligence are attributed?

Why has Deutsche Telekom published an education report?

The answer is as clear as the deep sea, where whales feel at home: for us, as a ‘Digital Leading Telco’, education is not merely a business model centred on digital equipment. We believe that the business community also bears a shared responsibility for Germany’s development. Education is the indispensable foundation for this development.

As one of the largest employers in Germany, we feel it is our duty to be prepared not only for the current but also for the future ‘waves’ in the world of work. Education shapes and moulds the next generation – in other words, our future colleagues, customers and managers. Only if these future leaders are competent, well-informed, innovative and ready to face the challenges of tomorrow can prosperity and social harmony be secured. That is why we at Deutsche Telekom have made education a top priority. We believe that our current commitment to and investment in education is an investment in the future of our company and our society. Like many other employers, we need university graduates and school leavers who are not only ‘ready for work’, but also possess the skills and creativity to understand and shape a rapidly changing digital world.

Education is a prerequisite for participation.

Please click through the report and see for yourself our commitment to social inclusion and participation. After all, education is the fundamental prerequisite for participation in society. We are convinced of this. In an uncertain world where digital skills are becoming increasingly crucial, no one must be left behind. We are committed to this and, for example, equip schools with modern infrastructure. From connectivity and equipment right through to services and content – our aim is to make digital education accessible to all, so that everyone can realise their full potential. Digital literacy is particularly important to us in this regard. The Education Report provides examples and information on how we are working towards this goal with our best partners. Through specific programmes and award-winning tools, we want to help people learn to use digital technologies safely and responsibly. We stand for ethical values and democracy online as a framework for our society, as a foundation for prosperity and peace, and as a prerequisite for many successful life stories.

Children face a huge challenge ahead of the 2024+ Education Report.

Education Report 2024

You can find detailed insights into the opportunities, challenges and potential solutions for digital education in Germany in our “Education Report 2024”.

The Education Report is not a Telekom advert, but a networking event.

Together with a broad education community, we want to further develop the Education Report 2024+. We aim to ensure it captures and brings together a wide range of perspectives – from start-ups contributing fresh ideas, to established companies shaping the education landscape in practical ways, right through to stakeholders from politics and educational practice who understand and help develop the framework conditions. We place particular importance on practical examples from schools and initiatives within our network. We want to show what is already possible today, and encourage others to emulate the best ideas and engage with the most interesting people.

After all, the challenges we face in education affect us all and are so multifaceted and complex that no single stakeholder can tackle them alone. Not even us. And if, in the past, ‘it took a whole village to bring up a child’, then today we need academia, politics, the education sector, civil society and also the business community and companies such as Telekom to tackle this mammoth task: improving education in Germany.

There is no one who is not affected by education.

The whale is a mighty and awe-inspiring animal and our symbol of depth, wisdom and community. That is why I was delighted by the many questions about our ‘heraldic animal’. For the whale reminds us that genuine educational reforms require a collective effort, which is only possible through cooperation and the exchange of diverse ideas and solutions. Each of us – whether as a teacher, learner, parent, member of the public, expert or politician – has the opportunity – I would almost say the duty – to become an architect of this new world of education. After all, there is no one who is not affected by education!

Be part of it! #takepart

I warmly invite you to click through the report and see for yourself. Get involved and share your experiences and perspectives.
